THE WAR PROJECT is a global initiative to create engagement between the world’s greatest musicians, social justice leaders and communities most in need. First we will launch MUSIC UNPLUGGED highlighting our master and youth musicians. In spring of 2015 we will stage an interactive ENCAMPMENT as a new site-specific production experimenting with new live-streaming technology, audience smart phone interfaces, witness stories, youth orchestra and masters from around the globe. THE WAR PROJECT will culminate in fall of 2015 with THE WAR ZONE in an actual refugee camp overseas.

Music Unplugged

THE WAR PROJECT kicks off November 2015 with MUSIC UNPLUGGED an evening concert at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco featuring music masters and youth musicians, including musicians from Azerbaijan, China, Germany, India, Iran, Ireland, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and more. MUSIC UNPLUGGED explores the intersection of how music is used as propaganda, protest and prayer in the context of war.

Encampment

MUSIC UNPLUGGED will be followed ENCAMPMENT in April 2015 & July 2015, several weeks of experimental prototyping of a modular mobile production that can be transplanted into refugee camps at Fort Mason in San Francisco. ENCAMPMENT will take over Fort Mason as a new site-specific production, experimenting with set design, international live-streaming technology, music content, audience smart phone interfaces, witness stories, social justice solutions, international exchanges between our youth orchestra masters, and refugee communities from around the globe.

The War Zone

THE WAR PROJECT will culminate in September 2015 with THE WAR ZONE at a real refugee sites around the world. We will be live-streaming a dozen plus refugee sites (include those from Palestine, Syria, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Zimbabwe) into Fort Mason Center’s Festival Pavilion. The integrated sounds of MUSIC UNPLUGGED and our experiments to create a mobile production in the ENCAMPMENT will converge as we take THE WAR PROJECT to refugee communities where it is needed most, so that they can be connected to a greater strategy for systemic change.
